Today’s Top 3 Programming Languages Are JavaScript, Python, And Java

JavaScript and Python are today’s most popular programming languages, with Java in the third position, reveals a market study done by one of the world’s biggest publishers of programming-related books, Packt Publishing.

The answers of over 11,000 respondents accessing several of its services was compiled by that the company that it had collected via a survey. The data includes information about the programming language developers use, for what they use the language, preferred frameworks, and general salary information.

Based on what developers are using on a day-to-day basis, the survey showed that today’s top 10 programming languages ranking is made up of JavaScript, Python, Java, PHP, HTML (not a programming language though), C#, SQL, CSS (this too), C++, and R. A similar survey that was taken last year also showed that JavaScript and Python were the favorites.

However, this list is very different, which is based on salaries. According to the developers, languages like Bash, Perl, and Scala got paid over $80,000 per year, while PHP and C just managed to get the developers to the $40,000 mark.

In terms of Web-dev tools, AngularJS is at the top, followed by Facebook’s React.js framework, Node.js, Docker, Laravel, Bootstrap, WordPress, and AWS.

It is of no surprise to find Swift on top of the charts, followed by C#, Go, Rust, and Elixir as the most popular new programming languages in the last few years.
